Gregorio Pernia was born in the city of Cucuta at the north of Santander, Colombia.
The role of Federico Suarez in the well-known production "The Mother" marked Gregoria Pernia's debut with Colombian network giant, RCN. The problematic and rebellious son of the lead role, played by Margarita Rosa de Francisco, was brought to life after months of preparation that included living with actual gang members on the streets of Bogota. His work earned him the Simon Bolivar Award and Best Actor Awards from TVyNovelas and Shock in 1998.
In 1999, Gregorio played his first villain role, Anibal Cevero, a quarrelsome troublemaker, in the production "I Love Paquita Gallego". A product of RTI Network, the telenovela was shown in 7 Latin American countries.Gregorio's process of maturation as an actor continued at full force with the telenovela "Isabel Got Me". In this production for RCN Network, Pernia explored new dramatic possbilities in the role of Pepe Grillo, a small town boy who follows the opportunity to work as an assistant photographer in the big city.
In 2003, Gregorio Pernia was recognized for his first leading role on the RCN Network production "Miracles of Love". Here, he played Miguel Granados, a casanova who ends up masquerading as priest Emilio Luna in a small town, whilst being hunted down by the family of his scorned ex-wife. There, he not only finds an escape but true love. His multi-faceted interpretation of the role drew critical acclaim from the press in every country that saw the production.
One of Pernia's most recent performances was seen on RCN Network's "The Nights of Luciana" where he played the lead's best friend, Primitivo Ramirez, a beloved and respected Caribbean fisherman. In this production, he showed his ability to interpret roles rich with unique idiosyncrasies and different temperaments.
In 2007, Pernia made waves in his role as Manuel, Coloso de Jalisco, in RCN's "The Mariachi's Daughter". For his unforgettable performance, he was awarded the prestigious India Catalina Award for Best Villain in 2008. It was later on that same year that he had the privilege of interpreting El Titi, a ruthless drug trafficker in RTI Telemundo's version of "Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso". His acclaimed performance made him a household name among United States audiences.
Gregorio Pernia is currently starring as Victor in RCN Television's "Las Detectives y El Victor", a romantic comedy that is sweeping Colombian audiences nationwide.
